noon to 1:30 p.m., April 28, 2023

On Friday April 28th from 12:00pm - 1:30pm, AIRID and AIR International Programs hosted a research showcase featuring presentations from each of the winners of the 2023 Award for Excellence in Resilience Research for Global Development Challenges.

This award honored the authors of published works that advance resilience in the face of global development challenges. This hybrid event took place in ENR2 room S215 and online via Zoom. Missed the event? Watch below to hear directly from these outstanding researches.


Graduate Student Researcher

Malavika Jinka Ramamurthy headshot

Malavika Jinka Ramamurthy

Malavika Jinka Ramamurthy is a PhD student in Sociocultural Anthropology with a focus on political ecology and development anthropology. Ramamurthy is honored for authorship of the following paper:

"'Development' Definitions of Internally Displaced People and the Government: A Study of the Chenchu Tribe in the Nallamala Forest of Southern India."

Early Career Researchers

Dr. John Haupt headshot

Dr. John Haupt

Dr. John Haupt earned his PhD in 2022 from the Department of Educational Policy Studies and Practice with research focusing on the geopolitics of science. Dr. Haupt is honored for his dissertation:

"Global Hierarchies in Science: An Examination of USAID's Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research Program"

Dr. Beth Tellman headshot

Dr. Beth Tellman

Dr. Beth Tellman is a human-environment geographer, seeking to address the causes and consequences of global environmental change for vulnerable populations, with a focus on flood risk and land-use change. Dr. Tellman is honored for authorship of the following paper: 

"Regional index insurance using satellite-based fractional flooded area."

Dr. Anna Josephson headshot

Dr. Anna Josephson

Dr. Anna Josephson is an Assistant Professor of Agricultural & Resource Economics and co-director of the Applied International Development Economics (AIDE) Lab. Dr. Josephson is honored for authorship of the following paper: 

"Socioeconomic impacts of COVID-19 in low-income countries."
